1999 LEAVERS WERE IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE FOR PASSES!
| When our 1999 Leavers return to St.
Michael’s for their Celebration of Achievement Evening in November,
there will certainly be plenty to celebrate!
In addition to all of their other successes in extra-curricular and social
spheres, the GCSE results they achieved were truly outstanding.
Over the years, St. Michael’s students have consistently reached GCSE levels well above local and national averages and parents will remember that last year’s results were particularly good. This year, however, with 100 per cent achieving GCSE passes and 59 per cent achieving 5 or more higher grade A*-C passes, the Year Group that left St. Michael’s in the summer term has considerably surpassed even those results. Their achievements are once again substantially above all local and national averages. |

Here is a summary of the 1999 GCSE results:
100 per cent of our pupils gained at least one G.C.S.E. pass;
98 per cent of our pupils gained at least five G.C.S.E. passes;
59 per cent of our pupils gained at least five higher grades A*-C G.C.S.E. passes.
We congratulate our ex-students and hope that their hard work and successes will inspire all those sitting examinations this year and in the future.

BEGINNING OUR PREPARATIONS FOR MOTOROLA 2000 In late January and early February, we will be making our video entry in the main hall of our version of the House of Commons at work. It will then be entered for the 2001 Motorola United Kingdom Youth Parliament Competition. Incredibly. against strong opposition, including sixth forms and independent schools, we have emerged as National Champions four times and last year finished second. One of our students, Paul Evans, was judged ‘Best Backbencher in Britain and visited Westminster and 10 Downing Street. At the 1999 Presentation Ceremony in the House of Lords, Motorola Chairman, David Brown, presented us with a special award to mark our three consecutive successes, 1997-99!

So, we now need to collect all those newspaper cuttings again, as we search for a suitable topic for the debate. If anybody has a good idea, let Mrs. Parnell or Mr. Curran know. Once again, the whole of Year 7 will be invited to act as the backbench MPs and there will be auditions later in the term for speakers from Years 8 to 11.
