CUP WIN WAS A FITTING FINALE FOR THE YEAR 11 TEAM

If it has to be your last match together, how better to end things than by winning the cup? St. Michael’s Year 11 football team did exactly that by landing the Stockton District Cup 1-0 in a close-fought encounter with Egglescliffe at Billingham Town’s Bedford Terrace ground.

Playing against a physically strong and talented side, St. Michael’s grabbed a first-half goal, when Alan Jones centred and, with help from Eddie Salmon, Steven Howard found the net. The team then settled down to some really hard work, dealing effectively with everything that Egglescliffe could throw at them and always looking threatening when going forward themselves. Patrick Robson ran tirelessly in midfield, Lee Buckley was a rock at the heart of the defence and Darren Halliwell was the Man of the Match.

Mr. Bowman was very proud of his team, saying, We knew we faced a very tough game, but teamwork shone through and everybody gave of their best. They really deserved to win and it is great to think that they have gone out on such a high note.
* Assistant referee was Year 10 student, James Black.
** Photographs, including one of the whole team, will be included in the Year book.

Meanwhile, we are hoping that Northen Cross will contain a report and a photograph in its June edition.

EXAMINATION PRAISE FOR YEAR 9 SATS STUDENTS

The whole of Year 9, including Rachel Hiscox, Thomas Hall, James Dickinson and Leanne Douglas spent the greater part of a week in May in sitting external SATS examinations in English, mathematics and science. At the end of the week, Mr. White congratulated the Year Group for the excellent approach it had taken and his praise was echoed by other teachers, too. So, well done to everybody. Results are expected late in the summer term.

WEST HAM SUPPORTERS IN THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT?

A large group of Year 7 pupils enjoyed an exciting day with scientist, Phil Rose. They found out about solids, liquids and gases and made giant bubbles! One by one, pupils were all placed in a giant bubble and even Mrs. Richardson and Mr. Fleming had a go! Altogether, it proved to be a worthwhile and entertaining day.
