On our return to school after the Christmas holiday, we heard
the wonderful news that Mrs. Doreen Round has been awarded the M.B.E.
in the Queen’s Millennium Honours List for her services to education
in St. Mchael’s and in Bede College.

MILLENNIUM HONOURS LIST MBE AWARD FOR MRS. ROUND!
On our return to school after the Christmas holiday, we heard
the wonderful news that Mrs. Doreen Round has been awarded the M.B.E.
in the Queen’s Millennium Honours List for her services to education
in St. Mchael’s and in Bede College.
Mrs. Round works during the day as catering supervisor at Bede and then cycles over to our school to fulfil her duties as a cleaner. In both schools, she is held in the highest regard and her cheerful and dedicated attitudes to her work have been evident throughout the many years of service she has given.
The Principal of Bede College said that Mrs. Round is ‘a role model for all the ordinary hardworking people throughout England who tirelessly support the schools and colleges in which they work.
Mr. Maxwell said, This award to Mrs. Round is really well deserved. Throughout the time I have known her, she has always been cheerful and loyal, often working beyond the requirements of her job. I know that Mrs. Johnson and her fellow workers hold her in the highest regard and she is a friend to so many in our school. This award also emphasises the importance of the work done by everybody within schools. Much of her work may be carried out when most of our pupils have gone home for the day, but I know they appreciate coming into classroooms that have been so well looked.
Mrs. Round will now be invited to Buckingham Palace, possibly in May, to
meet the Queen and to receive her Award. It will be an exciting occasion
and we hope she ---missing text--
IMPORTANT DATES! Parents are reminded that this coming Friday (18th February) is a Professional Development Day for teachers and that pupils therefore begin their half-term holiday on that day. They return to school on Monday, 28th February. Later in the term, Thursday and Friday, 6th and 7th April, are also Professional Development Days for teachers and pupils will be on holiday. * There are reminders of other important dates inside this copy of Home Links. |

Having beaten Filey School 6-0 to claim a place in the last 32
of the English Schools’ Cup, our senior soccer team suffered a narrow
2-1 defeat in extra-time at Gateshead to miss out on the chance of making
further progress. However, as all the staff and parents who saw that game
will confirm, they were very unlucky to lose and circumstances certainly
went against them. Each member of the team can hold his head up high. They
all represented our school with skill, endeavour and dignity and the school
feels very proud of one of the best teams ever to wear its colours. Full
