EASTER - A TIME OF GREAT HOPE FOR ALL CHRISTIANS

As we move into Holy Week and Easter fast approaches, Christians throughout the world are waiting to celebrate the greatest feast of all - Christ’s Resurrection. Easter brings joy and hope to all Christians. Throughout Lent, we have been preparing in St. Michael’s for this special time and I thank all who have helped organise the different services held in March and April. Turning to the academic year, we have already seen the beginnings of the GCSE examinations and Year 9 pupils have been reaching the final stages of their preparations for SATs exams. Page 2 contains important information about both kinds of external examinations. I wish success to all who are busy revising at the moment and, to everybody associated with St. Michael’s, I wish the happiest of Easters. G. A. Maxwell Head Teacher

ALL SAW THE POINT OF ENTERING THE SCIENCE COMPETITION!

Rachel Smith, Jack Marsh, Naomi Douthwaite, Rachel Hiscox, Gareth Whem, Lauren McDonnell, Emma Fairhall, Kate Forrester, April Chivers and Amy White injected real enthusiasm into the work they did recently to compile entries for a science competition called ‘Vaccination - Just a Shot in the Arm?’ Year 8 pupils had to create public information leaflets for parents explaining how immunisation provides their children with protection against disease. They were encouraged to look at the history of vaccination, new developments, who should be treated and much more. The leaflets produced were excellent and Mrs. Colclough congratulated all who worked so hard. * Needles to say, the results will be eagerly anticipated!!

IMPORTANT! PLEASE NOTE

St. Michael’s closes for Easter on Tuesday 18th April at 3.10 p.m. and re-opens at 8.50 a.m. on Tuesday 2nd May.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY

The school will be closed for pupils on Friday 12th May.

TESTING TIMES ....... SITTING EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS

Good luck to all members of Year 11 who will be spending a lot of their time in the next two months revising for, and sitting, their final GCSE examinations. We also hope that preparations go well for Year 9 pupils, who will be sitting their SATs examinations early next month. It is very important that everybody taking external examinations should be well- organised. In particular, preparation for 10 or 11 GCSE examinations is a considerable commitment and, in each subject, candidates have been given clear advice about the ways in which they need to set about their revision. Results have been excellent in recent years because students have been prepared to listen to advice and have worked very hard. Some subjects are continuing to hold extra classes after hours for exam candidates at both GCSE and KS3 levels and GCSE students will be informed by their teachers where lessons will be going on beyond the official leaving date. The external examinations timetable is re-printed below and it would be a good idea for candidates to have it handy at home at all times.
