AIM OF THE SVP - ‘TURNING CONCERN INTO ACTION’
| The SVP Junior Conference at
St Michael's has gained several new members this year who are committed to
the Society's aim of 'Turning concern into action'. They have been
visiting local nursing home residents and joining with established members
involved in various activities for disabled children and teenagers. Jenny
Kilcourse, Louise Wharry, Katie Chipchase and Sam Stevens have joined
Conference President, Alex Sotheby, in helping at special sessions for
disabled children at 'Wacky Warehouse'.
Mrs. Jenny Lumley from Stockton Parent Support has led two interesting and challenging workshops for SVP members on disability awareness issues. These have included sharing the real life experiences of carers of the disabled and ill.

MICHAELA’S POEM Some pupils in Year 8 have been writing their own Christmas poems in English lessons. Michaela Spencer penned ‘Christmas Time’: ‘Christmas Eve is all about excitement. We go downstairs, happy for the next day. I know that Christmas is here: Time for Christmas wrapping paper and presents, Waiting for the next morning. “Mam! Dad! Get up! Santa’s been!” Running down, one after another, opening all the presents. Waiting for our dinner, you can smell it through the kitchen door. Christmas turkey, Christmas pudding, set out on the table Waiting to be eaten. Oh, I love Christmas!’ STATIONERY STOP A ‘Stationery Stop Shop’ has been opened in the Library / Resource Centre. Pupils are able to buy pens, pencils and other items at greatly reduced prices.

APOLOGIES TO KATE AND REBECCA In November’s edition of ‘Home Links’, news was included of Chris Leighton and Darren Morton reaching the National Lifesaving Finals. At the time, we were not aware that both Kate Forrester of Year 10 and Rebecca Leighton of Year 7 had also qualified for those same Finals, which we held at Manchester’s Commonwealth Games Pool. Congratulations to Kate and Rebecca, too. It is a remarkable achievement on their part and on the part of their club to have had so many reach that high level. |
