TICKET ARRANGEMENTS FOR ‘ALADDIN’

Following news in the November edition of ‘Home Links’ about the initial preparations for our full-scale pantomime production of ‘Aladdin’, ticket arrangements have been released for the three performances to be given on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 28th, 29th and 30th January. Tickets for adults will be £4, with concessionary tickets for children and OAPs at £3. Preparations are going very well – and among those who are giving lots of time to learning lines, songs and jokes are Jess Davies, Tim Foley, Miss Clarke, Nicola O’Brien, Jess Boyd, Jon-Paul Rowden and Clemency Sauvary.

* Every production in recent years has played to full houses, so do be quick to purchase your tickets!

SEPTEMBER WAS A GREAT MONTH FOR CHRIS

Chris Duffy won an individual award and £150 for the school when his entry for the 2002 ENRON Community Calendar was chosen for inclusion for the month of September. The theme was ‘Seasons of the Year’ and Chris was joined in the finals by Year 8’s Samantha Linton, who received a certificate and gift token for her entry. Prizes were presented at the Cellnet Riverside Stadium by Boro’s Robbie Mustoe and by the Mayor of Stockton, Terry Bean.

DISCOVERY DAY WAS

QUITE AN EXPERIENCE

A Year 10 GCSE Graphic Products class travelled to Teesside University to participate in a Design Discovery Day - an event that aimed to provide pupils with experience of some of the courses offered by the University to design students. The day’s highlight was the visit to the Apple Mac suite that is a focal point of some design courses and pupils were given the opportunity to produce animations. Mr. Dunning said that the quality of responses to discussion work was excellent, with our pupils comparing very well with Y11 and sixth form pupils from other schools and colleges.

THE BOOK FAIR AND JUNK - WHAT HAVE THEY GOT IN COMMON?

Following Mrs. Grant's recent Book Fair, an enthusiastic group of Y7 to Y10 pupils have become involved in a Robot Warriors Club. Their main source of raw materials is, of course, JUNK!!. It is amazing what a discarded shower gel bottle can be used for! Using a book many purchased at the fair, they have shown a great deal of ingenuity as they explore ideas and designs. Their efforts have been overseen mainly by Chris Young from Y10 . He has a willing apprentice in Mr. Morgan, who is trying to lend a hand. To ensure fair and accurate records are kept, Thomas Spink, Alex Price and Michael Bowstead are creating a video diary of the club’s activities.

THEY BROUGHT, THEY BOUGHT… AND MRS. HUNT CONQUERED!

...the nearest we could get to the Blue Peter ship!

Michael Henderson and the Year 9 Student Council were behind the idea to raise money for the Blue Peter Appeal for mini-buses for elderly people. Emma Lavery, Terri Bell, Dale Middleton, Ashley Fitzpatrick, Nicola Murray, John Watson, Andrew Dunn and Hannah Sigsworth were among the many volunteers who helped organise and run a hugely successful ‘Bring and Buy Sale’ that initially raised £104 in just thirty minutes!

Since then, other efforts have added considerably to that total,

including Mrs. Hunt’s sponsored attempt to name all 92 Football League grounds in front of a full assembly! As you might have read in Monday's Evening Gazette or in this week’s Herald and Post, she completed the task with flying colours and money she has raised helped boost the final total for Blue Peter to £225.

Many thanks to all who contributed and particular thanks to Year 9.
