CAROL CONCERT HELPS BRING CHRISTMAS CLOSER

When I attend St. Michael’s Carol Concert, I know that Christmas is not far away! There is so much sharing of talents through the music and readings that the true spirit of Christmas shines very strongly. This year, our Carol Concert took place in Holy Rosary Church and, as usual, it was a very uplifting experience. I feel sure I speak for all who attended when I warmly thank all of our students and Mr. McMurray, Mr. Hadfield, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Holland for the hard work they put into preparing everything. Thanks, too, to Fr. Butters for all his help and for making Holy Rosary available to St. Michael’s.

Looking through copies of this term’s ‘Home Links’, it is very noticeable that so many pupils have found ways to become involved in extra-curricular activities. The desires to participate, to enjoy shared experiences and to achieve a great deal are so important in the education of our students and I thank their teachers and parents for all the encouragement they have given during the term.

I will conclude these brief notes by wishing all connected with the school, the happiest and holiest of Christmases.

G. A. Maxwell (Headteacher)

CITIZENSHIP LOGO WINNERS

Pupils from three Year 9 classes have been taking part in our ‘Citizenship’ logo competition to produce a suitable logo to be used on school stationery. Mr. Dunning and Mrs. Davies report that responses were excellent and that Mr. Maxwell was very impressed with the logos pupils designed.

Representatives from Years 9 and 11 Student Councils were involved in judging and overall winners are: Katie Devitt (first), Michaela Alexander (second) and Shane Gardiner (third). Well done to all who participated.

PLEASE DON’T THROW THOSE CHRISTMAS CARDS AWAY!

St. Michael's has agreed to take part in The Tees Forest's annual Christmas Card Recycling Scheme, which encourages everyone to recycle their old cards. This helps to reduce landfill, save energy and improve the local environment. Tees Forest is working with ICI, SWS Waste Management, and the five local borough councils and it asks pupils to bring cards into school after the Christmas holidays. They will be collected to be recycled into new products. For every ton of Christmas Cards collected 100 new trees will be planted in The Tees Forest to create a new and exciting educational resource for young people to enjoy.
