Part One – Holiday Enquiry

Aim – to find out which are the most popular holiday places and why people go there.

Method – Interview at least five adults that you know who have been on holiday abroad. They may be friends, family neighbours, teachers, etc. ask them the following questions: -

Task A

  1. Which countries have you been on holiday to in recent years?
  2. Explain your reasons why you went on holiday to these places.
    {Answers could be to do with the weather, seaside, mountains, scenery, etc.}
Task B
  1. Collect results from the rest of your class and add them to yours.
  2. Draw graphs to show the results of your survey.

Conclusion

Describe the results of your short survey. Say which are the most popular holiday places and explain some of the reasons why people go there.

Evaluation/limitations

Describe some of the weaknesses of your project. Say how you could have improved things in hindsight.

Part Two– Planning a Holiday

Task You have to imagine you are a travel agents. A family of four (two adults and two teenage children) have asked you to plan a holiday for them. You will need to promote the holiday package to your imaginary family, as you will be in competition with other groups to win their custom.

Method

  • Choose a holiday destination It may be somewhere you have been and know or could be somewhere completely new to you.
  • Research your chosen holiday destination. Research can involve using the Internet, collecting holiday brochures, TV, newspapers or magazines, etc.
  • Plan your holiday for the imaginary family. You need to think about the following: -
    • Travel to and from your destination
    • Accommodation
    • Activities whilst on holiday
    • Cost you need to give some idea of the cost of your holiday
    • Background information about your chosen country and the area they will be in.

Presentation

There are various differrent ways to present the project. You can use the computer to do a powerpoint presentation or produce a booklet. you could decide to produce a wall display. How you present your information is up to you. If you are unsure then ask your teacher first. You can work individually or in groups, however you need to plan your project and the work involved.
