The current Year 10 and 11 students are following the AQA GCSE syllabus
A (3031) course, which involves the study of six topics. Three physical
topics and three human topics.
The examination comprises:
Paper 1 (40%) 1h 45m
Paper 2 (35% 1h 30m
Geographical Enquiry (25%)

Geographical Enquiries
There are a number of topics in the units of work, which lend themselves
to enquiry or fieldwork. These include: -
Year 7 – Map work, Weather
and Transport. In particular the students can carry out traffic surveys
for their
transport project.
Year 8 – Environmental Concerns
and Rivers. The students are able to do a project on the environment
and Niagara
Falls and take
part in a piece of fieldwork to Saltburn.
Year 9 – Hazards and Tourism.
Students produce a class project on Tourism after collecting information
individually.
Students are
able to produce a newspaper on Volcanoes.
Years 10 & 11 – Fieldwork
is carried out during Year 10 to meet the needs of the coursework
element of
the syllabus
