Using Excel to produce a graph

1. Go into Microsoft Excel and enter your climate data into a table. Put the months in the A column, rainfall (mm) in the B column and temperature (ºC) in the C column.

2. Highlight all the data and click on the chart wizard icon (circled in red above)

3. The top left chart should be selected, this is a clustered column. Click next to go to step 2 of 4. Click next in step 2. In step 3 put a title, X label (month) and Y label (rainfall in mm).

4. In step 4 of 4, change the chart to be as a new sheet.

5. To change the temperature to a line, click the right button when the cursor is on a temperature bar.

6. Select the line graph shown above.

7. To change the line's colour and axis, click the right button on the temperature line and select format data series.

8. Use the pattern menu to change the temperature's appearance and then click on the Axis tab.

9. Change the series from the primary axis to the secondary axis (circled in red above). This allows a temperature scale to appear on the right axis.

10. Finally, click the right button and go to chart options so that you can add the temperature axis label (put it in the second value (Y) axis).
